Istanbul Baroque

Istanbul Baroque is an ensemble of five to fifteen soloists affiliated to perform baroque era’s composers with authentic instruments and style. The ensemble’s repertory expands from chamber music to concertos, choral works and operas.

Istanbul Baroque - which firstly consisted of a trio - has been found in 1975 by Turkish harpsichordist Leyla Pınar. Later in 1995 Pınar, expanded it to an international wanderer concert-opera-ballet ensemble.

Istanbul Baroque has introduced permanently both in Turkey and abroad its audiences to seven opera staging and a modern dance choreography with numerous concerts in historic places and modern concert halls.

Istanbul Baroque has been invited to perform in Famagusta-Othello Castle, Girne-Bella Pais Monastery, Amsterdam-Old Huis (twice), Luxemburg, Namur and Brussels (thrice) It has also joined in 1997 The International Sablon Baroque Festival to stage A.Campra’s opera-ballet L’Europe Galante. The ensemble received complimentary reviews from the European press during tours.

Istanbul Baroque performed in Istanbul numerous times at Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall, Dolmabahçe Palace, Yıldız Palace’s Theater, Hagia Eirene, Tophane-i Amire, St. Michel Theatre, Palais de France, Austrian Culture Office and Casa d’Italia and has been succesfull to became one of the most important elements of Istanbul’s music environment. Continued his rise with tours to Ankara State Opera and Ballet, Manisa (Sardes), Antalya, Mersin, Antakya (Antioche) and Mardin.

Istanbul Baroque worked with soloists such as Ayhan Baran, Burak Bilgili, Bengi Mayone and Ezgi Saydam also collaborated with choreographers such as Geyvan MacMillen and Tuğçe Tuna.

Istanbul Baroque’s privilege is to perform works relating to Turks or mithologic characters of Anatolia in Baroque era. With a new appreciation and different understanding of staging.
